Walking to school makes me feel proud,
I want to shout it very loud,
You can walk with friends and family too,
Did you know it is good exercise for you?

Whatever name your school gives it, the idea is to designate one day per month or one day per week as a Walk to School Day, starting right after International Walk to School Week in October. Families do not need to make a commitment to walk every day, just on walk to school days, giving them opportunities to slowly break the driving habit and adjust their schedules accordingly. Successful Walk on Wednesday programs have led to community-wide Walking School Buses and reduced congestion around schools (see Walking School Bus section for inspirational success stories).
