No Idling at School
In the spring of 2000, we launched the province-wide No Idling at School project as part of our Active & Safe Routes to School program. This resource was updated in August 2005 to reflect more recent greenhouse gas calculations. This user-friendly, comprehensive toolkit has been designed to assist schools interested in reducing vehicle idling in their community. The project has been hugely successful, with over 1,000 kits distributed during the first year. Positive environmental benefits have been realized, including avoiding the release of 83 tonnes of CO2 emissions. That is the equivalent of 26,600 hours of reduced idling or running 10 cars for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for almost four months! "Our school was delighted to get the No Idling at School package. No charge for good resources that were useful." "Great program! Keep it going all year round. It's easily done." If you would like a complete No Idling at School kit mailed to you, please register here and check "No Idling at School". The No Idling at School kit is still available to schools but we have also reproduced many of the inserts here.
Natural Resources Canada 's Web site contains many useful tools to assist schools in implementing a No Idling at School campaign. |
